Credit Unions Examination Cycle Memo

The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions mandates updated examination cycles for state-chartered credit unions to align with NCUA scheduling policies and accreditation standards. Annual examinations will be required for institutions with CAMELS ratings of three through five, inadequate capital, outstanding enforcement actions, or elevated risk profiles, alongside interim targeted visits for those specific entities. Non-complex credit unions exceeding one billion dollars in assets will undergo exams every twelve to sixteen months, while all others will generally be examined every fourteen to eighteen months, with examiners required to provide forty-five days advance notice and secure document submission protocols.
