Securities Central Depositories Act (Cap. 60)
Uganda’s Capital Markets Authority issued this Act to license, regulate, and oversee securities central depositories operating within the country. The legislation mandates the immobilization and dematerialization of physical certificates into electronic book-entry systems, standardizing account management, record-keeping, and securities transactions. It further establishes strict operational rules for depository agents, enforces data secrecy and computer security measures, and grants the Authority comprehensive investigative powers to enforce compliance and penalize offences.
