Ease of doing investments - Modified Norms for Nomination in Demat Accounts and Mutual Fund Folios

Modified norms for nomination in demat accounts and mutual fund folios mandate nomination for single accounts opened on or after September 01, 2026, unless investors submit a declaration form to opt-out, while nomination remains optional for jointly held accounts requiring consent from all joint-holders for any changes. Regulated entities including Asset Management Companies, RTAs, Depositories, and Depository Participants must facilitate up to three nominees via online or offline modes using authentication such as Digital Signature Certificate or OTP-based two-factor authentication, and print nominee names or confirmation in periodic statements per investor choice. Entities are required to send bi-annual emails and SMS along with displaying pop-up messages to investors without nominations, and this circular supersedes all earlier circulars on nomination effective from May 29, 2026.
