Final Report on Guidelines on Remuneration, Gender Pay Gap, and Approved Higher Ratios Benchmarking Exercises

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has updated its Guidelines on remuneration benchmarking exercises under Directive 2013/36/EU, incorporating new requirements from Directive (EU) 2019/878 (CRD V) for benchmarking the gender pay gap and approved higher ratios between variable and fixed remuneration. These Guidelines, applying from 31 December 2022, require competent authorities to collect annual remuneration data from the largest institutions, covering at least 60% of national banking system assets, with the first submission due by August 31, 2023, for financial year 2022. Gender pay gap data will be collected every three years from institutions with at least 50 staff, starting in 2024 for financial year 2023, and for institutions with 250 or more staff, this data must be calculated per quartile of payment levels. The previous EBA Guidelines (EBA/GL/2014/08) are repealed with effect from 31 December 2022.
