Implementation of SEBI circular on Margin obligations to be given by way of Pledge / Re-pledge in the Depository System

The mechanism for margin obligations via pledge or re-pledge in the Depository System is implemented effective August 1, 2020, requiring Trading Members and Clearing Members to align their systems to accept client collateral through this method. The parallel system accepting client securities via title transfer into Client Collateral Accounts is permitted only until August 31, 2020, after which no further extension is granted. By August 31, 2020, all existing demat accounts tagged as 'Client Margin / Collateral' must be closed, and funded stocks under margin trading facilities must preferably be held by way of pledge.
