Instruction on the Structure and Use of the International Bank Account Number (IBAN)

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina establishes the structure of the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) as 20 alphanumeric characters consisting of the country code BA, the check digits 39, and a 16-digit account number. The Bank is required to verify the structural correctness and check digits of IBANs upon receipt of funds and initiate a complaint process for invalid entries. Clients must provide account instructions alongside IBAN payment instructions, and the Bank will issue written notices of IBANs to all clients. This instruction became effective on 21 May 2009 and was applicable from 1 June 2009.
