The Government of Belize enacted the International Foundations Act to establish a legal framework for non-resident foundations with separate legal personality and asset protection. The legislation mandates that founders and beneficiaries be non-residents while requiring at least one council member to be a Belize resident or registered agent. It further regulates governance structures, confidentiality, tax exemptions, and the powers of the Registrar and Courts regarding foundation validity and dissolution.
