Minimum Capital Requirements for Licensed Banks Instructions (No. 2010/52)
Based on the provisions of Articles (8) and (12) of Banking Law No. (28) of 2000 and its amendments, and in light of the Central Bank's commitment to enhancing the financial solvency of banks and their ability to face the risks of banking operations, I hereby decide the following:
First: The minimum capital requirement for banks is raised to (100) million Jordanian dinars for Jordanian banks and (50) million Jordanian dinars for branches of foreign banks.
Second: Banks whose capital is less than the minimum referred to in the (First) item above must work to reach it before the end of 2011, and provide the Central Bank with the proposed mechanism for increasing capital no later than the end of the first quarter of 2011.
Third: These instructions shall be effective as of their date.
