NORMATIVE INSTRUCTION BCB NO. 512, OF AUGUST 30, 2024
Establishes value limits for transactions within the scope of Pix.
The Head of the Department of Competition and Market Structure (Decem), using the authority granted by Article 23, item I, letter “a”, of the Internal Regulations of the Central Bank of Brazil, annexed to Resolution BCB No. 340, of September 21, 2023, based on Article 94, item IX, of said Regulations, and taking into account the provisions of Article 37 of the Regulation annexed to Resolution BCB No. 1, of August 12, 2020,
RESOLVES:
Article 1. This Normative Instruction establishes value limits for transactions within the scope of Pix.
Article 2. The provisions of this Normative Instruction apply to Pix participants:
I - in the transactional account provider modality, regarding the provision of services to their individual customers; and
II - who offer withdrawal service facilitation services.
Article 3. Pix transactional account provider participants must establish maximum value limits for initiating Pix transactions, for purchase or transfer purposes, from a transactional account, for individual payer users.
§ 1. The limits must be established by period, with the possibility of differentiating the limit established for the daytime period and for the nighttime period, if the receiving user is an individual.
§ 2. The daytime period referred to in § 1 generally comprises the period between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
§ 3. The nighttime period referred to in § 1 generally comprises the period between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
§ 4. The times set forth in §§ 2 and 3 refer to the time of the payer user’s registered domicile associated with their transactional account or to Brasília time, at the discretion of each participant.
§ 5. Participants may, at their discretion, offer functionality for the end user to request that the nighttime period comprise the period between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
§ 6. If, at the end user’s request, the nighttime period comes to comprise the period between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the daytime period must come to comprise the period between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
§ 7. If the receiving user is an individual, the limit for the nighttime period for Pix transactions referred to in the caput, except in the case where there is an express request from the user, must be equal to R$1,000.00 (one thousand reais). § 11. The limits for individual receiving users and for legal entity receiving users must be independent of each other.
§ 12. Transactions regarding the return referred to in Section I, Chapter XI of the Regulation Annexed to Resolution BCB No. 1, of 2020, must not affect the limits referred to in the caput.
§ 13. The limits referred to in the caput must be established based on the user’s risk and behavior profile, and Pix participants must consider, at least: (Added by Normative Instruction BCB No. 669, of 9/29/2025.)

§ 14. If requested by the user, the limits referred to in the caput may be established with a value equal to zero. (Added by Normative Instruction BCB No. 669, of 9/29/2025.)
§ 15. Pix participants may establish different limits, including a value equal to zero, in cases where it is not possible to identify the geolocation of the device being used by the user to initiate a transaction. (Added by Normative Instruction BCB No. 669, of 9/29/2025.)
Article 4. For the purposes of this Normative Instruction, the following expressions and terms are defined as follows:
I - individual: a person whose transactional account is linked to a registration number in the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF); and
II - legal entity: a person whose transactional account is linked to a registration number in the National Registry of Legal Entities (CNPJ).
Article 5. The limit per Pix transaction for withdrawal and change purposes for making cash resources available by the withdrawal agent who establishes a contractual relationship with a withdrawal service facilitator and by the withdrawal service facilitator itself, when it facilitates the withdrawal service directly, may not be higher than:
I - R$3,000.00 (three thousand reais), when the making available of cash resources occurs between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.;
II - R$1,000.00 (one thousand reais), when the making available of cash resources occurs between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Article 6. The limit per period for Pix transactions for withdrawal and change purposes established by the Pix transactional account provider participant for individual payer users, except in the case where there is an express request from the user and taking into account the provisions of §§ 4 and 5:
I - may not be higher than R$3,000.00 (three thousand reais) nor lower than R$1,000.00 (one thousand reais), in the daytime period; and
II - must be equal to R$1,000.00 (one thousand reais), in the nighttime period.
§ 1. In the case of Pix for change purposes, the limits established in the caput apply only to the portion of the transaction equivalent to the amount of cash resources made available to the user.
§ 2. The limits referred to in the caput must be established independently of the other limits referred to in this Normative Instruction.
§ 3. Respecting the limits set forth in the caput, the limits may not be lower than the limits made available for withdrawal at a cash counter or at an automated teller machine.
§ 4. Requests to increase the limits referred to in the caput must be accepted, respecting the time period set forth in Article 12, § 1:
I - up to the limit of R$3,000.00 (three thousand reais), for the daytime period; and
II - up to the limit of R$1,000.00 (one thousand reais), for the nighttime period.
§ 5. Requests to reduce the limits referred to in the caput must be accepted within the time period referred to in Article 11.
§ 6. The daytime and nighttime periods referred to in the caput and § 4 are defined as set forth in Article 3, §§ 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Article 7. Pix transactional account provider participants must establish a maximum value limit for initiating transactions related to the Scheduled Pix product, from a transactional account, for individual payer users.
§ 1. The limit must be established per day.
§ 2. For scheduling confirmation purposes, the Scheduled Pix limit must be observed, deducting the value of any scheduling already made for the same settlement date.
§ 3. For scheduling settlement purposes, the available Scheduled Pix limit on the date of the actual settlement of the transaction must be observed.
§ 4. The daily limit for transactions referred to in the caput, subject to the provisions of Article 15, must be established based on the user’s risk and behavior profile. (Amended by Normative Instruction BCB No. 669, of 9/29/2025.)

§ 6. The limit referred to in the caput must be established independently of the other limits referred to in this Normative Instruction.
§ 7. The provisions of §§ 1, 2, and 3 do not apply to scheduling made during the period from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., for transactions where the receiving user is an individual distinct from the payer user and with settlement scheduled for the following day, in which case the limit for scheduling during the period must be R$1,000.00 (one thousand reais).
Article 8. For transactional account provider participants for individual payer users, in the case of scheduling Pix Collection for payments with maturity, referred to in item II of Article 11-A of the regulation annexed to Resolution BCB No. 1, of August 12, 2020, the limit to be considered is the Scheduled Pix limit.
§ 1. For scheduling confirmation purposes, the Scheduled Pix limit must be observed, deducting the value of any scheduling already made for the same settlement date.
§ 2. For scheduling settlement purposes, the available Scheduled Pix limit on the date of the actual settlement of the transaction must be observed.
Article 9. Pix transactional account provider participants must establish a maximum value limit for initiating transactions related to the Automatic Pix product, from a transactional account, for individual payer users.
§ 1. The limit must be established per day.
§ 2. The limit to be considered is that related to the limit of the day of the actual settlement of the transaction.
§ 3. The daily limit for transactions referred to in the caput, subject to the provisions of Article 15, must be established based on the user’s risk and behavior profile. (Amended by Normative Instruction BCB No. 669, of 9/29/2025.)

Article 10. Pix transactional account provider participants must make available, for their individual customers, functionality for limit management.
§ 1. The functionality for limit management must be made available in the application provided by the participant for initiating a Pix.
§ 2. The functionality for limit management must include, at a minimum:
I - request for increase and request for reduction of the limits referred to in Article 3, §§ 1 and 8;
II - request for increase and request for reduction of the limit per period for Pix transactions for withdrawal and change purposes;
III - request for increase and request for reduction of the daily limit for transactions related to the Scheduled Pix product;
IV - request for increase and request for reduction of the daily limit for transactions related to the Automatic Pix product; (Amended, effective 12/1/2025, by Normative Instruction BCB No. 629, of 6/5/2025.)
V - registration of accounts or receiving users to enable the establishment of specific daily limits; and (Amended, effective 12/1/2025, by Normative Instruction BCB No. 629, of 6/5/2025.)

§ 3. If the participant offers the functionality to alter the start of the nighttime period referred to in Article 3, § 5, the functionality for limit management must include, in addition to the obligations set forth in § 2, the definition of the start of the nighttime period, which may correspond to 8:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.
§ 4. The manner of making available the functionality for limit management must follow the provisions of the Minimum Requirements Manual for User Experience.
§ 5. Participants providing transactional accounts who use a mobile phone application provided by another Pix participant are exempt from complying with the provision of functionality for limit management.
Article 11. The request to reduce the limit referred to in Article 10, § 2, items I, II, III, IV, and VI must be accepted immediately. (Amended, effective 12/1/2025, by Normative Instruction BCB No. 629, of 6/5/2025.)
Article 12. The request to increase the limit referred to in Article 10, § 2, items I, II, III, IV, and VI may be accepted, at the participant’s discretion. (Amended, effective 12/1/2025, by Normative Instruction BCB No. 629, of 6/5/2025.)
§ 1. The response to the request to increase the value of the limit made available and its actual alteration, if accepted by the participant, must be given between 24 and 48 hours after the request.
§ 2. The provisions of § 1 do not apply to the response to the request to increase the value of the limit related to Automatic Pix transactions and its actual alteration, which, if accepted, must be given in, at most, eight hours.
Article 13. Changes to the definition of the start time of the nighttime period, referred to in Article 10, § 3, must take effect between 24 and 48 hours after the user’s request.
Article 14. The registration of accounts or receiving users to enable the establishment of specific limits, referred to in Article 10, § 2, item V, must take effect between 24 and 48 hours after the registration of the account or end user by the user.
Article 15. Maximum value limits may be established, for each transactional account, above the limits set forth in Articles 3, 7, and 9 in the case of an express request from the user and at the discretion of each participant.

If the maximum limit of the end user for initiating Pix transactions, established by the participant as set forth in Article 3 and in Article 10, § 2, item I, is lower than the limit referred to in § 1, the lower limit applies. Article 16-B. Participants may not establish different limits for transactions initiated through payment transaction initiation services. (Added, effective 12/1/2025, by Normative Instruction BCB No. 629, of 6/5/2025.)
Art. 16-C. The maximum value limits set forth in Art. 16-A apply to the initiation of transactions through the sharing of the payment transaction initiation service without redirection referred to in Resolution BCB No. 406, of August 2, 2024, regardless of the mechanism used to initiate a Pix. (Included, effective December 1, 2025, by Normative Instruction BCB No. 629, of June 5, 2025.)
Art. 17. The following are repealed:
I - Normative Instruction BCB No. 331, of December 1, 2022;
II - Normative Instruction BCB No. 341, of December 30, 2022; and
III - Normative Instruction BCB No. 437, of December 7, 2023.
Art. 18. This Normative Instruction enters into force:
I - on April 1, 2025, for the provisions in Arts. 7, 8, and Art. 10, paragraph 2, item III;
II - on June 16, 2025, for the provisions in Art. 9, Art. 10, paragraph 2, item IV, and Art. 12, paragraph 2; and
III - on the date of its publication, for the remaining provisions.
