The Reserve Bank of India inserts paragraph 7A into the Reserve Bank of India (Urban Co-operative Banks - Governance) Directions, 2025, requiring a cooling-off period of three years before a director of an Urban Co-operative Bank (UCB) can be re-appointed after completing a continuous tenure of ten years. During this cooling-off period, the director is prohibited from being associated with the UCB in any capacity other than as a member or customer, though appointment to another bank's board remains permissible. The directions specify that for calculating continuous tenure, service preceding an interruption of less than three years is included, while service preceding at least a three-year interruption is excluded. These amendment directions come into force with immediate effect.
