Resolution CVM 119 Approves Consolidated Technical Pronouncement CPC 38 on Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement

Publicly-held companies must apply CPC 38 for financial instruments. They must separate embedded derivatives unless measurement is impossible, in which case the hybrid contract is fair-valued through profit or loss. Equity investments without reliable fair value measurements cannot be designated at fair value through profit or loss. Entities must derecognize assets when risks/rewards transfer or control is lost, and recognize servicing assets or liabilities based on adequate compensation. Reclassification of held-to-maturity investments is prohibited if significant pre-maturity sales occurred.
