The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka introduces a revised Capital Market Qualification Framework effective 1 January 2019, requiring licensed stock brokers to ensure all client-facing individuals comply with new certification standards. The framework establishes a Certificate in Capital Markets consisting of seven modules, with specific asset class certifications requiring completion of Series 1, 6, 7, and one relevant asset module, followed by a VIVA VOCE examination and industry experience. Registered Investment Advisors must complete all seven series and pass a VIVA VOCE after one year of experience, while existing advisors must fulfill specific Continuing Professional Development seminar requirements to maintain their status.
