The Securities and Exchange Board of India amended its 2021 regulations to define a retail individual investor as an individual applying for debt securities valued at no more than two lakh rupees. Issuers are now permitted to offer incentives, such as additional interest or discounts, to specific categories including senior citizens, women, defence personnel, and retail individual investors. These incentives are restricted to the initial allottee and cannot be extended if the debt securities are transferred or transmitted after allotment. These changes take effect upon publication in the Official Gazette.
