Statement by the Monetary Policy Board: Monetary Policy Decision

The Reserve Bank of Australia's Monetary Policy Board decided to leave the cash rate target unchanged at 4.35 per cent. The Board determined that inflation remains too high and is not expected to return to around the midpoint of the target range until late 2027, with upside risks present. Although financial conditions have tightened following three previous rate increases, the Board judged monetary policy to be somewhat restrictive and opted to maintain the current rate while assessing economic evolution. The Board stated it will continue to act as necessary to bring inflation back to target, including potentially increasing the cash rate further if upside risks materialize.
