Temporary Order to Cease and Desist, Order to Make Restitution, and Notice of Intent to Impose Civil Penalty against Milner Legal Services
Milner Legal Services is ordered to immediately cease and desist from operating as an unlicensed consumer collection agency in Connecticut and from using false representations regarding debt status and legal authority. The entity must provide an itemized list of all consumer collection activity and derogatory credit reporting since April 1, 2020, within fourteen days of receiving the order. Additionally, Milner Legal Services must refund all payments collected from Connecticut consumers since April 1, 2020, plus legal interest, within thirty days of the restitution order becoming permanent. The Commissioner intends to impose a civil penalty of up to $100,000 per violation, with a hearing scheduled for January 6, 2025, if requested within fourteen days.
