Utah Receives $461,688 Share of $18 Million Multi-state Settlement in 23andMe Bankruptcy

Utah will receive $461,688 as its portion of an $18 million settlement secured by a coalition of more than forty states from the bankruptcy proceedings of 23andMe. This settlement addresses the 2023 data breach that compromised the genetic and personal information of approximately 6.9 million users. The funds are designated to protect consumers and address the ramifications of the breach, while affected Utahns are separately compensated through a $46.75 million class-action settlement with a claim deadline of February 17, 2026. The agreement also includes restrictions on the future use of genetic information previously collected by the company.
