The European Systemic Risk Board warns that Frontier AI Models (FAIMs) pose systemic cyber risks to the Union financial system by accelerating vulnerability discovery and reducing defensive time buffers. ESRB members are required to consider the implications of FAIMs on operational resilience within their macroprudential and microprudential policy actions. Financial authorities must ensure that private institutions establish clear governance frameworks and that boards are committed to mitigating these risks. The ECB has specifically requested significant institutions to develop a comprehensive action plan addressing these threats by 31 October 2026.
