Rescission of Principles for Climate-Related Financial Risk Management for Large Financial Institutions

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Board, and FDIC jointly rescinded their October 2023 Principles for Climate-Related Financial Risk Management, effective upon Federal Register publication. The agencies determined the guidance is unnecessary for financial institutions exceeding $100 billion in total consolidated assets, as existing safety and soundness standards already mandate effective risk management processes. This action eliminates the principles without creating new obligations or prohibiting institutions from independently addressing climate-related risks within their current frameworks.
