Loan Classification and Provisioning

Authorised Institutions must classify loans as substandard or doubtful when overdue for three or six months, respectively, and maintain adequate provisions. Specific provisions of 20-25% are required for substandard loans, while doubtful loans require 50-75% provisions, potentially reaching 100% if no improvement occurs. Institutions must assess losses loan-by-loan, applying benchmark percentages only to unsecured portions where loss cannot be reliably estimated. Interest accrual must cease if principal or interest is more than three months in arrears and security is insufficient, or if collectibility is doubtful.
