Allowances for Credit Losses: Revised Comptroller’s Handbook Booklet and Rescissions
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) issued version 2.0 of the "Allowances for Credit Losses" booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook, which provides supervisory guidance to examiners regarding allowances for credit losses under ASC Topic 326. This revision rescinds version 1.0 of the booklet, OCC Bulletin 2021-20, the previous "Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses" booklet, and its 1996 cover letter. The updated guidance reflects the full adoption of the current expected credit losses methodology, incorporates April 2023 interagency policy statement revisions, and accounts for changes in U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and the OCC’s organizational structure.
