The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued this circular to define the applicability of enhanced investor protection measures for corporate banking business. Authorized institutions are exempt from these measures for large or sophisticated corporate customers but must apply private banking standards to other corporate clients. The regulator also clarifies that hedging transactions are exempt unless over-hedged and mandates strict controls to prevent the abuse of exemptions for professional partnerships.
