The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network establishes regulations governing access by authorized recipients to beneficial ownership information reported to FinCEN under the Corporate Transparency Act. The rule defines the specific circumstances under which Federal, State, local, Tribal, and foreign officials, as well as financial institutions and their regulators, may obtain this data, while mandating strict data protection protocols and oversight mechanisms for each recipient category. These regulations, which implement statutory requirements to protect sensitive personally identifiable information, become effective on February 20, 2024.
