Business Outlook Survey—Second Quarter of 2026

The Bank of Canada reports that business sentiment deteriorated in the second quarter of 2026 due to rising fuel costs and geopolitical uncertainty stemming from the war in the Middle East. While investment intentions remain strong and export outlooks improved, firms face softer domestic sales and weaker employment plans outside the Prairies. Inflation expectations rose sharply on higher oil prices but recently declined following an interim peace agreement, with the oil and gas sector increasing production and capital expenditures in response to elevated commodity prices.
