CIRCULAR LETTER NO. 003118

Discloses complementary instructions regarding the submission of information related to the hiring of Correspondents in the Country.

In view of the provisions of Resolutions 3.110, of July 31, 2003, and 3.156, of December 17, 2003, Circulars 2.978, of April 19, 2000, and 3.180, of February 26, 2003, and Circular Letter 3.089, of February 28, 2003, we communicate that it is optional for financial institutions and other institutions authorized to operate by the Central Bank of Brazil, alternatively to direct registration in the Information System on Entities of Interest of the Central Bank - Unicad, to send the information related to the hiring of Correspondents in the Country referred to in Articles 1, 2, and 8 of Circular 2.978, of 2000, via file through CONNECT: DIRECT or Internet, using the PSTAW10 application (Information Exchange), in accordance with Circular Letter 2.847, of April 13, 1999.

2. The layout of document 5021 and instructions for filling out the file to be sent to the Central Bank are available for download at http://www.bcb.gov.br/htms/pstaw10docs.asp.

3. Institutions that opt for this system, after sending the file, must consult the PSTAW10 application to verify if the transmission was successful. The result of the processing will be available, subsequently to the receipt of the file, through the same application.

4. Information regarding correspondent contracts already signed in accordance with the provisions of Articles 1 and 2 of Circular 2.978, of 2000, including those already closed but not yet registered in the Unicad System, must be sent from March 1, 2004, to April 2, 2004.

5. Similarly, changes to the registration information on correspondent contracts or on the contracted entities already registered may continue to be made directly in the Unicad System, as provided in Circular Letter 3.089, of 2003, or sent in the manner of item 1 of this Circular Letter.

6. Documentation related to requests for authorization to hire correspondents to provide the services mentioned in Art. 1, items I and II, of Resolution 3.110, of 2003, as well as that related to the hiring of correspondents cited in Art. 3 of that Resolution, must continue to be sent to the component of the Department of Organization of the Financial System (Deorf) to which the contracting institution is subject, regardless of its respective registration in the Unicad System.

7. Doubts regarding the use of the CONNECT:DIRECT software can be resolved by phone 0xx-61-414-2156.

8. Non-compliance with the regulatory deadlines and conditions in force for the provision of information or the provision of inaccurate information subjects the offending institution to the penalties provided for in Resolution 2.901, of October 31, 2001.
