Circular No. 2315 — Reduces the blocking and exchange periods for checks cleared by the National Clearing System

Financial institutions participating in the check and other paper clearing service must count blocking periods from the next business day after deposit, increasing by one day for municipal holidays or up to two days for cities not in a Regional Integrated System (SIRC). Checks from difficult-access cities may be blocked for twenty business days. The operator, Banco do Brasil S.A., must disclose municipal holiday codes. Returns must use the CD-Communication of Return, cleared in the SIRC where the check was exchanged, while high-value checks use the CR-Communication of Remittance, cleared in São Paulo. This circular replaces Letter-Circular No. 1,866 and others from 1988 and 1991, entering into force on publication date with rules governing from July 1, 1993.
