Collective Investment Schemes (Real Estate Investment Trusts) Regulations, 2017

The Capital Markets Authority of Uganda issued these regulations to establish a comprehensive legal framework for closed-ended Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). The rules mandate the authorization and licensing of trustees and REIT managers while distinguishing between Development (D-REIT) and Income (I-REIT) schemes with specific investment, borrowing, and distribution thresholds. They further enforce strict disclosure obligations, valuation standards, connected-party transaction controls, and periodic reporting to ensure market transparency and investor protection.
