The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) issued version 3.0 of the “Concentrations of Credit” booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook, replacing version 2.0 and rescinding OCC Bulletin 2020-90. The revised booklet defines a concentration of credit as the sum of direct, indirect, or contingent obligations exceeding 25 percent of a bank’s tier 1 capital plus the allowance for credit losses. It reorganizes content to include comprehensive discussions on risks, correlations, securitizations, and risk management practices for banks of varying sizes, complexities, and risk profiles. The document is designed for use by examiners to guide consistent supervision and is made available to the public for transparency into the OCC’s supervisory process.
