Concurrent SFC-HKMA thematic review of spread charges and other practices

The Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority will conduct a concurrent thematic review in the second half of 2020 to assess intermediaries' compliance with disclosure requirements regarding spread charges and trading capacity. The regulators aim to determine whether intermediaries are charging fees in excess of disclosed amounts, increasing spreads post-trade without client agreement, or failing to properly disclose their trading capacity and monetary benefits. Intermediaries are expected to implement robust policies, systems, and controls to ensure honest conduct and adequate record-keeping, with review findings potentially leading to regulatory action.
