FinCEN Calls Attention to Environmental Crimes and Related Financial Activity
Financial institutions are instructed to reference the keyword FIN-2021-NTC4 in the Filing Institution Note and narrative of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to indicate a connection to environmental crimes. Institutions must select SAR field 38(z) (Other Suspicious Activities - other) as the associated suspicious activity type and include relevant keywords such as wildlife trafficking, illegal logging, illegal fishing, illegal mining, or waste trafficking. Filers are requested to provide detailed narratives describing how the activity relates to environmental crimes, including transaction volumes, dollar amounts, and identities of involved parties and beneficial owners.
