FMA joins global initiative tackling unlawful influencers

New Zealand's Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has joined 17 international regulators in a coordinated global week of action to combat unlawful financial promotions by online influencers. The regulator directly contacted 14 finfluencers, successfully securing the removal of misleading advertisements targeting New Zealanders and prompting several to restrict their services to the local market. Concurrently, the FMA is deploying updated consumer guidance, social media awareness campaigns, and a dedicated podcast to highlight the risks of copy trading and luxury lifestyle marketing while clarifying legal boundaries for financial influencers.
