Law Governing Collective Investment Schemes

The Republic of Rwanda issued Law No. 062/2021 to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for Collective Investment Schemes (CIS). The legislation mandates specific licensing, exemption, and recognition procedures while defining permissible CIS types such as unit trusts, investment companies, partnerships, and contractual schemes. It further imposes strict governance, management, and operational requirements on trustees, operators, and depositaries, alongside detailed rules for investment diversification, valuation, accounting, information disclosure, inspection powers, and winding-up procedures.
