Reserve Requirements of Depository Institutions

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System issued a final rule amending Regulation D to update statutory reserve requirement thresholds for 2023. The amendment increases the reserve requirement exemption amount to $36.1 million and the low reserve tranche to $691.7 million, reflecting annual indexing based on year-over-year growth in total reservable liabilities and net transaction accounts. Although these adjustments are mandated by the Federal Reserve Act, they will not alter depository institutions' actual reserve obligations, which remain at zero percent following the March 2020 policy change.
