SMS Sender Registration Scheme
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority urges authorized institutions to join the Office of the Communications Authority's SMS Sender Registration Scheme to enable the use of verified Sender IDs. This initiative, launched in December 2023, allows registered entities to prefix their Sender IDs with a hash symbol to help customers distinguish legitimate messages from scams. Institutions are advised to clearly inform customers that the scheme excludes reply-required messages and specific non-Hong Kong mobile services.
