The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) reports that Peru's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 3.7 percent year-on-year in April 2026, with non-primary GDP expanding 5.3 percent driven by construction, services, and trade, while primary GDP contracted 1.4 percent due to a significant drop in hydrocarbons and metallic mining. Formal employment increased 4.0 percent, and average formal income rose 3.5 percent in real terms, contributing to a 7.6 percent real increase in the total wage bill. The fishing sector saw a modest 1.7 percent increase, primarily from direct human consumption, despite challenges including reduced anchoveta quotas and temporary suspensions of fishing activities due to lower biomass and persistent warm sea temperatures.
