The Reserve Bank of India reports that the total value of ₹2000 banknotes in circulation has declined to ₹5,451 crore as of April 30, 2026, representing a 98.47% return since the withdrawal announcement on May 19, 2023. The deposit and exchange facility at all bank branches ended on October 7, 2023, but exchange services remain available at 19 RBI Issue Offices since May 19, 2023. Additionally, these offices accept deposits into bank accounts from individuals and entities starting October 9, 2023, and the public may send notes via India Post for credit to their accounts. Despite the withdrawal process, ₹2000 banknotes continue to be legal tender.
