The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has withdrawn its 40% guideline on property exposure for authorized institutions effective 28 July 1998. Despite this change, the regulator mandates that institutions maintain cautious property lending practices, including a maximum 70% loan-to-value ratio for residential mortgages. Banks are required to adhere to previously notified budgeted growth rates and continue engaging in annual supervisory discussions regarding their property lending plans.
