Broker-Dealer Exemption From Sending Certain Financial Information to Customers

The Securities and Exchange Commission amends Rule 17a-5(c) to allow broker-dealers carrying customer accounts to send a financial disclosure statement containing net capital information instead of a full balance sheet twice a year. To qualify, firms must provide a toll-free number for free copies of the full balance sheet and post the full audited balance sheet on their website within 90 days and the unaudited balance sheet within 75 days of the respective balance sheet dates. The rule also codifies prior no-action relief permitting the delivery of this information with the next quarterly customer account statement mailing after the standard deadlines expire.
