The Monetary Authority of Hong Kong issued the Deposit Protection Scheme (Asset Maintenance) Rules to empower regulators to require Scheme members to maintain specified asset levels in Hong Kong. These subsidiary legislation measures aim to minimize potential shortfall losses for the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board if a member fails and its assets are insufficient to cover depositor compensation. The Rules were published in the Gazette and tabled before the Legislative Council for negative vetting following consultation with the banking industry and other interested parties.
