HKMA Guidance on Bogus Voice Message Phone Calls

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued this circular to retail banks regarding a massive surge in fraudulent voice message calls claiming account irregularities. The regulator requires banks to immediately publicize fraud alerts warning customers that banks never request sensitive information via phone or email. Additionally, banks must properly handle customer enquiries, advise affected individuals to report incidents to the Police, and take prompt follow-up actions to prevent financial loss.
