The Governing Council of the Bank of Canada decided to maintain the policy interest rate at 2.25%. This decision follows economic data largely in line with the July forecast, including a 3.3% GDP increase in the second quarter and an unemployment rate of 6.4% in July. The Bank cites increased upside risks to inflation due to high energy prices from the Middle East conflict and uncertainty from new US tariffs on Canadian exports.
