Norges Bank Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Committee Decision on Policy Rate

Norges Bank’s Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Committee raised the policy rate from 4% to 4.25% at its meeting on 6 May. The Committee determined that a higher policy rate is needed to return inflation to target within a reasonable time horizon, citing that inflation remains too high and is expected to stay elevated. The decision follows assessments that underlying inflation pressures and external price pressures are stronger than previously assumed, despite a stronger krone dampening imported price inflation. New forecasts were not prepared for this meeting, with the next Monetary Policy Report scheduled for publication on 18 June 2026.
