Reports To Be Made by Certain Brokers and Dealers

The Securities and Exchange Commission amends Rule 17a-5 to require certain broker-dealers with a minimum net capital requirement of $100,000 or greater to file a report prepared by an independent public accountant regarding their process for addressing Year 2000 Problems. This report must be submitted alongside the second Form BD-Y2K by April 30, 1999, reflecting efforts as of March 15, 1999, and must be prepared in accordance with Statement of Position 98-8. The final rule becomes effective on January 4, 1999, and makes the independent public accountant's report available to the public.
