The Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Bolivia approves the Foreign Exchange Position Regulation for banking and non-banking financial entities, effective September 1, 1997. The regulation establishes daily calculation methods and specific limits for foreign exchange positions, permitting overbought positions up to 80% of adjusted net worth and oversold positions up to 20% of net worth, with a 5% limit for other convertible currencies. Financial institutions must report their positions within 24 hours of the close of each business day, and those exceeding limits for three consecutive business days face suspension from Central Bank operations. The Superintendency of Banks and Financial Entities is tasked with establishing control norms and sanctioning infractions.
