Supervised Investment Bank Holding Companies

The Securities and Exchange Commission adopts rules implementing Section 17(i) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, creating a voluntary framework for investment bank holding companies to elect supervised status. Eligible entities must file a notice of intention, maintain group-wide internal risk management controls, and comply with consolidated reporting and recordkeeping requirements. The rules also exempt affiliated broker-dealers from certain risk assessment rules and amend audit requirements for over-the-counter derivatives dealers to allow supplemental reports based on agreed-upon procedures. These final rules become effective on August 20, 2004.
