Adjustments to Civil Monetary Penalty Amounts

The Securities and Exchange Commission amends 17 CFR Part 201 to increase the maximum amounts of civil monetary penalties under the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and certain penalties under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. These adjustments are calculated based on the cost-of-living adjustment formula mandated by the Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996 and are detailed in Table V to Subpart E. The increased penalty amounts apply to violations occurring after the effective date of March 5, 2013.
