SEC Final Rule on Money Market Fund Reform

The Securities and Exchange Commission adopts amendments to rule 2a-7 and new rules 22e-3 and 30b1-7, along with new Form N-MFP, to tighten risk-limiting conditions for money market funds. The amendments require funds to maintain higher liquidity, reduce the maximum weighted average maturity of portfolio holdings, and report portfolio holdings monthly to the Commission. Additionally, the rules permit a money market fund that has broken the buck or is at imminent risk of doing so to suspend redemptions to allow for the orderly liquidation of fund assets. These changes become effective on May 5, 2010.
