Cash Settlement and Regulatory Halt Requirements for Security Futures Products

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission adopt rules requiring that the final settlement price for cash-settled security futures products fairly reflect the opening price of the underlying security or securities. The rules also mandate that trading in any security futures product halt when a regulatory halt is instituted with respect to a security or securities underlying the product by the national securities exchange or national securities association listing the security. These requirements apply to designated contract markets, registered derivatives transaction execution facilities, national securities exchanges, and national securities associations. The rules became effective on June 24, 2002.
