Exemption of the Securities of the Kingdom of Belgium Under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 for Purposes of Trading Futures Contracts on Those Securities

The Securities and Exchange Commission amends Rule 3a12-8 to designate debt obligations issued by the Kingdom of Belgium as exempted securities under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 solely for the purpose of marketing and trading futures contracts on those securities in the United States. This amendment adds Belgium to the list of designated foreign governments, allowing futures contracts on Belgian sovereign debt to be sold in the U.S. provided they meet existing requirements, such as delivery outside the United States and trading on a board of trade. The rule becomes effective on March 5, 1999.
