Extension of Temporary Exemptions for Eligible Credit Default Swaps To Facilitate Operation of Central Counterparties To Clear and Settle Credit Default Swaps

The Securities and Exchange Commission extends the expiration dates of temporary rules providing exemptions under the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, and the Trust Indenture Act of 1939 for certain credit default swaps. The amendments update the expiration dates for the temporary rules and amendments published January 22, 2009, and extended on September 17, 2009, from November 30, 2010, to July 16, 2011. The rule becomes effective on November 26, 2010, allowing central counterparties to continue clearing eligible credit default swaps until the clearing provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act take effect.
