Firm Quote and Trade-Through Disclosure Rules for Options

The Securities and Exchange Commission adopts an amendment to Rule 11Ac1-1 requiring options exchanges and market makers to publish firm quotes. A new Rule 11Ac1-7 requires broker-dealers to disclose to customers when their listed option orders are executed at a price inferior to a better published quote, unless the transaction occurred on a market participating in an approved intermarket linkage plan. Broker-dealers must make quarterly reports publicly available within one month of the quarter's end and notify customers annually of their right to request order routing information. These rules become effective on February 1, 2001.
